Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Gabrielle de Pooter and I am involved in the Europeana Fashion project. I would like to take this opportunity to bring to your attention this wonderful project.
On 1 March 2012 the Europeana Fashion project was launched. This exciting three-year project, co-funded by the European Commission within the ICT Policy Support Programme, will publish online by March 2015 over 700,000 fashion-related digital objects, ranging from historical dresses to accessories, photographs, posters, drawings, sketches, videos, and fashion catalogues.
Europeana Fashion is a best practice network of 22 partners, representing the leading public and private museums, archives and collections from 12 European countries. Europeana Fashion will bring together their impressive and unique collections through Europeana (www.europeana.eu) and also through a dedicated multi-lingual fashion portal. The first launch of the portal is planned for May 2013.
Europeana Fashion is currently at the stage of preparing content to be ingested into the Europeana Fashion portal, organizing metadata and clearing intellectual property rights. The project is crafting specific guidelines for all project partners to assist them in managing Intellectual Property Rights, developing an expertise on IPR and fashion. In addition, a Fashion Thesaurus based on the Art and Architecture Thesaurus is being created that is tailored to fashion objects specifically, enhancing the search experience for users in multiple languages.
More information about the project is available on the project website: www.europeanafashion.eu. I would also like to invite you to visit us on Facebook, Google+, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube, LinkedIn and Delicious and let us know your thoughts. You can also sign up for our quarterly newsletter here.
The Europeana Fashion project is coordinated by Fondazione Rinascimento Digitale.
